I feel like the only way to make a good Hitman film, with a proper first second and third act that don't escalate into balls-to-the-wall action, is to make something quiet and low-stakes, like The American. Well, more exciting than that film, but you see what I'm getting at. A solid character piece with cool locales, a short run time and some vibrant violence.
Would a story about 47 and Diana doing some globetrotting and taking care of ICA business together work? It could be cool if they spend as much time apart accomplishing their goals as they would partaking in interesting, low-key scenes together that highlight their camaraderie. Instead of world ending stakes, overly-long fight scenes and other bullshit gimmicks, it would simply be 47 assassinating people in each new location they visit, while Burnwood would be winning battles with her words and pulling off some Machiavellian shit with different organizations to do her part in combatting whatever enemy is plotting against 47 & Co. The antagonist's agenda would slowly be revealed with each new goal accomplished in each new location, so there would be a through line connecting everything they're doing, just not any significant emphasis on showing the bad guy.
It could be flashy and bold, while cold and restrained... I think people could get onboard a brisk, intelligent, smaller scale espionage / assassin thriller with a solid bite.
What do you guys think?
