Vertical Sync BROKEN!

After the patch today, I'm really happy that bullet damage is back on the first shot. At the same time, the damage on the clothes looks somewhat odd. It's barely visible and just looks like a small watered-down stain.

Since it seems to be changing so often, I was curious what you guys want from the violence in this game? Absolution was ridiculously in your face and I kind of loved it. It was grim, bleak, harsh and really sold the nihilism of the world with how bloody it was... Now, it's a bit pulled back. Hitman is a much classier affair this time and the new tone is what has softened the presentation of the violence.

Do you guys want more or less blood? Just in general, I'd like to see the ramifications of 47's actions become a bit more extreme as patches roll out.

I guess the same argument can sort of be made for some of the targets in past episodes, but they were more in the moral grey area if you ask me. Or overthrowing a government (torturing a guy and killing people in the process), or selling secrets of the intelligence services to the highest bidder. Who knows, terrorists could end up with that information. Those targets just felt like bigger players, with much more reason to be killed. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing. I want to primarily be getting rid of bad guys. It's just good that they've now balanced it a little.

And that fortune teller kill? All I'm saying is that I certainly didn't feel like James Bond anymore.

I like it. Not that I'm a psychopath (okay maybe a little, being a member on HMF for more than 10 years), but because it's a big part of the appeal with 47's character. He's an anti-hero. It's only about the money.

So, kudos to IO. I hope you continue this path. Now, if you could only spice the spy-thriller music up with some horror/Jesper Kyd-ish sounds.... Then we've come a long way in terms of atmosphere.

Bonus Episodes: Value for Money review

Several have asked if the new Bonus episodes will be worth buying. Here's my take on the value for money question:

In short, the Sapienza, Marrakesh and Paris bonus episodes together will all add up to roughly the value of one episode. At the moment, not quite.

Firstly, I enjoyed the bonus levels greatly. The main pros are:
Fun missions, new voice dialogue, new challenges and unique kills, new costumes, and some interesting twists (bulletproof victim, recoverable data).
And the detail and design is beautiful, particularly the robots in Italy and nighttime market in Morocco. It's great to see a new twist on these maps.

The major drawbacks are twofold.
1) The missions are very short (I completely finished everything in the Icon in a single day in about 10 playthroughs), and I will likely compete 'Sand' today, on my second playthrough, and
2) the maps are notably small.

The latter point is likely to be the main talking point when it comes to value. These are not the full maps of Sapienza and Marrakesh, they have artificial walls to seal off big sections of the playing area, so you only get to use a part of them. A bit like the 'Stories from Liberty City' GTA IV DLC, or the Batman Arkham Origins DLC, they only use part of the map.

To illustrate the point, here are all the sections that you can and can't access in the bonus episodes:

ITALY
- Main Town Square (YES)
- Town Hall (YES)
- Back Alley shops (SOME)
- Beach (NO)
- High End Shops (NO)
- Church (NO)
- Sewer (NO)
- Apartments (NO)
- Mansion and Mansion exterior (NO)
- Underground Ether Lab (NO)
- Sapienza Ruins (NO)

So you can access roughly 25% of the map.

MOROCCO

  • Marketplace/Bazaar (YES)
  • Private Shisha Cafe (YES)
  • Rooftops and shops (YES)
  • School Exterior (YES)
  • School Interior (NO)
  • Swedish Embassy (NO)
  • Underground Tunnel (NO)

So you can access roughly 50% of the map.

That adds up to about 75% of a full map. Therefore, with Paris redesigned (Likely to be some or all of the interior) later in the year, that will probably add up to the value of a full new episode, all together. At present though, with just the two reduced maps, they'd probably have to sell it at a lower price point.

Also, the two maps each only have one start point and one weapon stash location.

Improvements/ Changes to HITMAN Post 19/7/16

Melee Weapon Animations

I know that this game is technically a "lighter" game (referencing IOI's dark-light-dark etc. cycle between games) and that it's supposed to be elegant, but I'd venture to say that a cool animation even if it's not the most efficient compared to a straight stab or something is still elegant when the target dies instantly. Thoughts?

NPC with gender confusion in Sapienza

PS IO gave NPC some very rare names (real names, but not so common), like Eulalia. It's ok, but it's a bit strange don't to meet almost nobody called Giuseppe, Francesco, Michele, Nicola etc.

And while we are at it I noticed that the bonus for that time is not even maximum !! So how fast should the target be killed for the flawless 210,000 points !?

In my opinion this possibility of eliminating any target within five the first 2 minutes of a level is not fun at all.. I suspect a glitch in this this my cry for an immediate check on this.

What do you think ?
